What are Unconcious Motivators?
According to Alleydog.com, Unconscious Motivators refer to hidden and unknown desires that are the real reasons people do things. They give an example of how an unconscious motivator could be why someone cannot stay in a committed relationship. In a sense, this can be considered our Why in life but on a deeper level. Our unconscious motivators are essential just that. They are things we are not even aware of until we start to look at our life as a whole. If we want to know about a specific area, we have to look at the area and collect data on how we feel and operate on any behavior or situation.
I find that my clients have these unconscious motivators that they are aware of but do not pay attention to. This means that people know they have an inflated ego or can be rude or nasty at times, but they do not do anything to change that behavior or action. People do not see these things as overly negative when associated with them. In their mind, their actions are perfectly normal and fine, but in the scheme of people and society, they could be viewed as a negative thing. We do not have to be perfect when it comes to what we think unconsciously. We have to be aware of the aftermath of our actions and look at their impact on others or the environment we are in.
Are Unconscious Motivators Good or Bad?
There will be many traits that are more favorable in a person when it comes to their unconscious mind. That is why knowing someone’s unconscious motivators can be a good thing. For example, if I know you have an unconscious motivator to bottle up stress in your life, I might ask how everything is going to help me figure out if you are stressed and find out some possible reasons why that stress is there. I have a good read on people when they need something from me. I am jealous that I can do this, but other people cannot do it for me. Though people might get a glimpse of my bad days, I choose to hide what is going on in my life.
That unconscious act of not looking for help when I need it can cause many setbacks in my progression. Thinking about the time I could save if I had someone help me instead of trying to do everything by myself should be enough to make me change, but I choose not to; another one of my unconscious motivators is my stubbornness. I am a stubborn person, and I like to be this way. Now, I can see the benefit of not being stubborn, and I delegate my stubbornness to my expectations solely nowadays. When I was younger, I would not budge for anyone, and that was due to me not being able to see my unconscious motivators as a bad thing. As I grew up, I was able to put in the work to get rid of my negative or shadow self and start to tune my unconscious actions and behaviors toward something better.
So the answer is that Unconconsious Motivators can be a good and a bad thing. They are good if you want to make your way and do not care about other people’s feelings or input. However, you will have to have some knowledge of people reading to see a person for what they truly want. For example, some people at work might find money an incentive to work harder, while others want appreciation and recognition. We have to see what is deep down and when we do, we will see our subconscious actions for the good and bad.
Subconscious Mind vs. Unconcious motivators
The difference between the subconscious mind and unconscious motivators is that they do not use the same path of thinking in my mind. This means that my subconscious mind does not operate the same way my unconscious does. My subconscious mind will be my inner reason for why I do or believe things. I wrote about the subconscious mind in a blog that you can find here. I have learned that the subconscious mind can be manipulated through the effects of mindset coaching. I can have a session with someone and change their current subconscious mind. I can help people start to take more action toward their goals.
When it comes to the unconscious motivators someone will have, it will be different from changing how they think to get the results they want. In a sense, these unconscious motivators act as roadblocks when I am coaching someone. The reason is that people have behaviors that will not allow me to permeate and change their subconscious minds. Those behaviors could be that they self-sabotage their own life. They know they have to do good, and their subconscious mind wants them to do good, but they are not willing to do what is necessary. What that will do is it will cause them to self-sabotage any progress they make.
I cannot change their subconscious minds; I have to make them aware of their unconscious motivators. The coaching process takes longer, but I can get the results we are looking for. The problem is that I do not know someone’s unconscious motivators unless I make them take a test before we begin coaching or I have to do trial and error with the person. I would rather have someone take a test so I can know how they are and move them accordingly, but at the same time, I want to see if a person can become resilient and learn to pass their unconscious motivators through coaching.
I do this because I want people to become independent from needing my services when they have a hard time. I do not want people to come back to me forever with new goals or every new problem they have come up with in their life. I want to equip people to handle any issues that come their way. Knowing their unconscious motivators will allow me to help them better, but it will stop them from realizing the challenge themselves. We are our greatest adversary in life, and if we cannot beat our weaker minds or way of thinking, we are doomed to fall into complacency and not create a life we will be proud of.
How to get rid of unwanted Unconcious Motivators
As you have learned, unconscious motivators are not bad, but they can impede progress in knowing; we should know how to get rid of those negative motivators and change them for better ones. The problem is we have first to figure out our unconscious motivators. To do that, I would check out something like PRINT. I had a zoom call with Paul back in 2021 about his method, and he had me take the test and offer him my honest feedback. I will say that the test was spot on IF I didn’t do all the fixing I did in my life. I used trial and error and reflection to learn about my unconscious behaviors, but everyone will not be able to do what I did.
The reason is that many people are not conditioned to the high level of thinking that is required to observe themselves before, present, and after. Many people can see who they are and who they want to be, but they do not see their bad habits. That is why we have a herd of big women saying they are beautiful. Obesity is not something to call beautiful. A poor diet has caused that to happen to your body, and just covering it up with a positive doesn’t make it good. As long as people are in this way of thinking, it will be difficult for them to find out and get rid of their unconscious motivators without taking a test.
I recommend anyone taking this type of test to understand who they are on the deepest levels of their thinking. Once you have that list of unconscious motivators, you can choose which ones you want to get rid of and then begin the work to get rid of them or change them. As I said, I used to allow my ego and stubbornness to stop me from progressing, but I was able to make changes to those areas, and now they are assets. The test will say that you have a problem in this area or a place you should watch out for, but if you have done the work to make the changes, you will notice that you have gotten rid of those negative behaviors and actions.
Learn How to Master Unconcious Motivators
Once you have taken the test or received coaching to learn about your unconscious motivators, you will be able to choose your areas of strength and weakness accordingly. Of course, your areas of strengths will feel good and appear almost effortless, but you also want to take some time and work on your shadow self. In doing so, you will be able to perfect your way of thinking in a manner that is more proactive towards success and a better you. Though we want good things in our life, we will be the reason why we do not get them. Understanding and learning how to control our unconscious motivators can be a powerful skill to acquire. The belief behind it is that if you can learn how to use your strengths and weaknesses for personal development, you can make great leaps toward a better life.
Master one unconscious motivator is not as easy as reading a book and taking a test. It would be best if you went on a self-realization journey. There is no designated time for the journey; it will be unique to everyone. However, if you go without a coach or a guide, you will find that the journey can take more time. If you go on that journey alone, you also risk giving up before reaching a state of total mind dominance. When you have complete control of your mind, you will finally understand how to make your life better, and you will do what you must to achieve a better state of mind and state of life.
Understanding what makes you tick will be vital to unlocking your future progress to a level you have never seen before. Having those unconscious motivators and negativities latch on to your mind will only weigh you down in life. We must learn what makes us who we are. We must learn and study our WHY and make sure we are operating accordingly under the premise of our most authentic selves to reach our fullest potential. There is much that can be gained from understanding our mindset. The best part is that you will start to live your whole life without the unnecessary turmoil you put yourself through.
Until then,
