The Seed Method is a mental image tool I created to help my clients see the progress they are making in their life. There is no magic pill or button to fix all of your problems in a day, and even if there were a magic fix, new problems would arise eventually. The truth is that our problems come from our habits. Our habits are what get us to be overweight, unloving in a relationship, lazy at work, etc. Regardless of what you want to change in your life, the seed method can be one of your greatest tools to combat your current mindset and alter it to represent the change you want to have in your life. In this blog, I will explain in detail how I use the seed method and how it can benefit you.
Before I dive into The seed method, I want to explain what I picture in my mind when I am working with this tool. For me, I envision the mind as a garden. You can have any type of flowers/plants/ etc. in this garden. I also want to make sure to add weeds into the garden that represent my problems or bad habits that I need to get rid of. Now that I have a full picture of garden space in my mind, I have to look at this area(life) and determine if my garden(mind) is overgrown with weeds or if it is flourishing with fresh fruits, vegetables, and fragrant flowers. That is the foundation I need to have before I step into the seed method and get to work in my garden.
I use this method with many of my clients who need something to work toward. Sometimes it can be easy to get lost in life and just lose focus on how amazing you are. Self-doubt and negativity seem to take over, and it can be challenging to get out of that mindset. The seed method has helped many of my clients find the weeds in their life and make an effort to get rid of them. They rekindled an old dream and envisioned what type of garden(mindset) they wanted in their life. This helps because understanding what you want and accept in life is just as important as knowing what you will not accept/tolerate in life. This is where I find many people get lost, and the seed method helps them to stay on the path of positivity/self-growth that they seek.
Step One: Be able to envision your garden(mind)
Step Two: Clear out the weeds
Step Three: Plant the seed
Step Four: Care guide – while in the growing stage
Step Five: Maintain your garden
The first step to The seed method is to be able to envision your garden(mind). Once you are able to see that, then you can look around your garden and see if what you want to be growing is growing. Is your career growth turning into something beautiful and beneficial? Is the love you have been cultivating in your relationship begun to bloom into beautiful flowers that everyone admires? Regardless of the area in your life that you would like to see grow and turn into something wonderful is dependent on you and the effort you put in. You cannot just plant a garden and expect great things to be happy. Your mind is the same way as a typical garden. It requires constant work and maintenance in order to keep it clean and healthy.
The second step of The seed method is clear out the weeds. Taking out the weeds means taking out the unnecessary things in your life. Take out any negativities and insecurities you have. Take out the procrastination and fear of doing what needs to be done. Make sure you clean and clear an area for you to begin your work. Now, your garden is a very big space, so I always recommend starting with small sections and areas that you would like to work on. This will give you a goal to one day have your garden looking picturesque perfect. In order to get there, you must be able to take out the things that no longer serve you in that garden space. Your garden is personal to you, and whatever you decide to grow in it is 100% your decision.
The third step in The seed method is to plant the seed. In this, you take what you want in your life and finally plant it in your garden(mind). Once the seed is planted, you are responsible if that seed sprouts or never sees the light of day. Les Brown speaks about Chinese bamboo and how it takes five years for it to sprout. That doesn’t have to be the case for the seeds you plant. The seeds you plant can grow very quickly, but that is dependent on you. If they have the right environment, then you will see growth happen in a very short period of time. You have to make sure that you give the seed what it needs in order to grow/produce.
The fourth step to The seed method is caring for it while in growth. The seeds in your garden will need many things from you in the growing process. These things will include you taking care of them and making sure that they have what they need to grow. This means that you will have to make sure you keep your seed(s) watered and fertilized. The reason you want to constantly water and fertilize the areas where you planted your seeds is to promote strong and healthy growth. This is done by creating the environment needed for sustained growth.
The environment around your seeds is influenced by what you put into your daily life. Are you being negative and cold? Are you neglecting your responsibilities and foregoing the work you need to do in order to have a strong, healthy garden(mindset)? If you are not doing what needs to be done to cultivate those seeds into the growth you want for your life, then that is the area you must continue to work on. This is something that will require large amounts of energy and effort to keep up with. The good news is that once you learn how to create a strong positive mindset, then this step becomes a habit.
The habit of taking care of your garden is developed by the premise of belief and dreaming. You must believe that the seeds(things) you want in your life can grow and come into existence. You have to believe that your garden can be better than it was before. Lastly, you should have a vision or dream of how you would like your garden to turn out. Being able to envision the things you want in your life is very important because it will start to manifest. What you put in today will be the result of your hard work yesterday. That is how growing works. You do not see the seeds you plant sprout because you put in some water and cared about them for a few days. That is the same thinking as you are going to get in shape for the new year and you work out in January because you are motivated and then fall off. Then you wonder why you do not have good things in your life. Having the garden of your dreams requires hard work and consistency.
The last step (step five) of The seed method is maintaining your garden. At this point, you should have wonderful green foliage growing throughout your garden. You have put in the hard work needed in order to have such a beautiful garden. This garden is a representation of your blood, sweat, tears, and sacrifices. Though you understand how much work was involved in getting to this point, others who are looking into your garden will just say how nice your garden looks and admire it. These people will wish to have a garden as beautiful as yours. However, they are unaware of how much work you had to put in to get to this point. That is the mind in a nutshell. We want to accomplish great things in our life, but large amounts of effort/time/discipline are needed to produce the changes we want. That hard work aspect/self-doubt that lingers in mind is the roadblock that must be removed in order to have the garden of our dreams.
Having your mindset focused on upkeep will keep the garden in your life for many years. You will not have an overwhelming amount of work if you keep up with daily maintenance in your garden(if you build strong, healthy habits). If you can weed, water, and fertilize your garden daily, then you will not be overwhelmed by the care of your garden. Having this type of garden/seed mindset will help you to continue to focus on what is important in your life and keep the good things coming. Your garden will one day be able to produce everything you want in your life after you follow the process of The seed method.
In closing, The seed method can be a great tool to get you where you want to be in life. Once you are able to see how beautiful/wonderful your mind can be, then your outlook on life will change. What you decide to put into it each day will change too. You will not want to have a garden filled with weeds and wasted time. You will want a garden that is filled with green vegetation and vibrant foliage that can be admired by others(along with yourself). You will start to notice people admire your life and dream that they had it. They can surely have it one day too, but they will have to be willing to put in the work that you have put in. Learn to expect nothing less from yourself each day and demand that your garden be the best in your world. The garden you want to build/dream of is yours to enjoy, so make it your own. Make the garden of your dreams exactly the way you want without outside stimulus because the seeds you planted were your choices, so cultivate your choices into greatness. The world will provide you with a beautiful garden in return, and all that will be left for you to do is be grateful for the hard work you put into achieving these desired results.
