Riding the Motivation Wave: Your Journey to Discipline & Success

At Reven Concepts, we firmly believe in the importance of motivation. That initial spark can ignite your journey towards achieving your goals. However, we also recognize that while motivation is a valuable tool, there are other vehicles you should rely on to reach your destination. Instead, think of motivation as the carrot on the stick or the batteries in your hybrid vehicle – they provide a boost. Still, discipline and good habits will ultimately drive you towards success.

It is still early in the year, and you might still be on your New Year’s Resolution high, which keeps you motivated. Though you might have it today, you might start to see that it will fade in the coming weeks and months. You must learn how to remain motivated to take more actions that will ultimately lead to the discipline you should be living in.

If you haven’t already joined us in the fun of our Motivational Video Series, Motivation In Motion, we are on Season 9 and making great waves in people’s lives by tuning in to listen and watch this content. We created this content for the same reason I am writing this blog: we need to be reminded sometimes to be motivated. Typically, that happens only a few times a year naturally. Still, when you subscribe and watch the weekly videos of Motivation In Motion, you will give yourself more opportunities for motivation and action.

Motivation is like that burst of energy you feel when you set a new goal, attend an inspiring seminar, or read an inspiring book. It’s the initial excitement that propels you into action. But here’s the thing about motivation – it can be fleeting. It often comes and goes, and relying solely on motivation to achieve your long-term goals can be a shaky foundation. That’s where discipline and good habits come into play.

Discipline is the steering wheel of your journey to success. It’s the ability to stay focused and committed to your goals, even when motivation wanes. Discipline means sticking to your plan, following through with your tasks, and making the necessary sacrifices to achieve your goals.

Imagine you’re on a road trip, and your motivation is like the fuel in your car. It’s necessary to start the engine and get moving, but without a steering wheel (discipline), you’ll end up going in circles or veering off course. Discipline keeps you on the right path and ensures steady progress toward your destination, even when the initial enthusiasm fades.

Then, we must look at the good habits acting like the engine that powers your journey. They provide the consistent energy needed to keep moving forward daily. Habits are the actions you take without conscious thought, and they can be either your greatest ally or your biggest obstacle.

Think of it this way: if you want to get fit, the initial motivation might get you to the gym for a few days. But the habit of going to the gym regularly will transform your health and fitness over time. Similarly, in your quest for success, it’s the daily habits you cultivate – whether it’s dedicating time to work on your projects, networking, or continuous learning – that will propel you towards your goals, even when motivation is low.

Nonetheless, a balance can be struck between all aspects of motivation, discipline, and good habits. They are not split equally but are all a piece of the puzzle. You might think motivation is the biggest factor, but discipline and good habits triumph over motivation alone. Regardless of your ratio, we must understand that each has a purpose.

Here are a few tips:

  • Use motivation as a catalyst: Let motivation kick-start your journey, but don’t rely solely on it. Use it to set clear goals and create a vision of what you want to achieve.

  • Build discipline gradually: Like any skill, discipline can be developed over time. Start small by setting achievable goals and gradually increasing the level of commitment.

  • Cultivate good habits intentionally: Identify the habits that will support your goals and work on incorporating them into your daily routine. Consistency is key.

  • Stay adaptable: Understand that there will be times when motivation is high, and times when it’s low. On days when motivation is lacking, lean on your discipline and habits to keep moving forward.

In conclusion, while motivation is a valuable tool to kick-start your journey, discipline and good habits will sustain your progress and ultimately lead you to success. So, keep that carrot on the stick handy for those extra boosts of motivation, but make sure you have a well-oiled engine of discipline and a set of reliable habits to carry you to your desired destination. Remember, success is not a sprint; it’s a marathon, and discipline and good habits will be your steadfast companions on the road to achievement.
