As the year comes to a close, I am sure you stand with me in saying that this year has been insane in many ways. Regardless of what has changed for us this year, we have an opportunity to reignite our ambitions in lieu of the approaching new year. I am certain there is a time you can remember when things were good or going well. How can we get back to that point? Better yet, how can we be in a better place than that point? The answer is not as easy as saying you can do it, and it gets done. Sometimes a boost is needed in order to reinvigorate your mind and lifestyle to promote the growth you seek. In this blog, I want to share how you can rekindle the flame that has gone out or is on the brink of being extinguished.
In order to rekindle your flame, you have to set an area for your new fire. This means you have to lay out or create a foundation to rebuild your fire. Imagine if you were camping and wanted to get a fire ready. You will not be able to place your fire on the ground if there is a brush around. If you don’t clear that brush, then there is a chance that the fire can spread out of control. What needs to be done is we need to control the fire we build so that we can harness its power and not its destructive force. Take time to lay out the foundation for your fire. Lay the stones to keep the fire in an area of focus. That way, you enjoy what you have started instead of regretting the outcome.
Understanding that you need to create a foundation is the first step to a fresh new you. I cannot cookie-cutter shape how you should create that foundation because you are your own person. I am able to do that for my clients because I learn what they want and how they operate. What works for them might not work for you. However, one thing that we all need more of when creating our foundation is self-care. We could all benefit from a spa day or a day to relax and watch the game. Whatever your proven method for feeling rejuvenated should be done at this time. In order to shine brighter than you have ever done before, you must have the knowledge and energy to get to that point.
I have learned over the years that the best way I recover from mental fatigue is to go on a hike. I was speaking with my brother the other day, and he told me he had gone on a hike early that day. I was a bit jealous because I was an avid hiker when I lived up north. I enjoyed snowshoeing and new trails with my dog every weekend. Now that I do not live up north and my schedule seems to get busier by the day, I find it challenging to make time for a hike. That being said, I know that a hike would be a great way for me to jumpstart a tired mind and body to help elevate me for the final push of 2020. You see, making a reason for not doing a higher energy/beneficial activity because time is a constraint is not the way to approach your days. What should be done is you should use your time in a manner that you get the most out of it. I see beneficial activities like meal prep, going to the gym, and hiking as something that makes me better. Perhaps, making a list of all the things you do in a day and choosing the ones that made a difference in your tomorrow would be a great place to weed out what doesn’t serve you.
Time is the number one excuse I hear from clients, friends, family, etc., about why they don’t do a particular thing in their life. They say to themselves that they do not have time to do a certain activity because time is a constraint. Now, I am not saying that everyone has an endless amount of time. What I am saying is that we all have the same 24 hours in a day, so it is important that we do the things that serve us. We live in a world where it has become so easy to become distracted and use our time for activities that will not promote growth. Sitting in front of the television watching The Office for the fifth time will not help you write that book you have been trying to finish. Now, this might be how you re-center after a long week, and that is fine in moderation, but balance is key.
Meditation is a great way to refocus yourself and find the balance needed to rekindle your fire. A robust mental state is essential for any growth you will have in your life. One of the reasons many people do not meditate more mindfully is that they are unaware of what meditation really is. Meditation can be done in any place at any time. Now, I would start in more quiet places because the mind tends to wander, but once you have gained experience, you can meditate while walking, driving (eyes opened, please), working, etc. When you are in a state of meditation, you are in a fine focus state where you are super aware of what is going on within and around you. I utilize meditation to reignite my mind to be primed for a challenging task or upcoming period.
Setting time aside to find what ignites your flame and prepares you for any future challenges will be your best next move. There is no reason you should constantly feel stuck in your life. You should feel motivated each day to be/do better. There is no magic month or year to get your act together, so there is no better time than right now. You want to make sure you set yourself up to be in a position where you can shine the brightest you have in your whole life. Taking the road to a better you will not be easy, but I can assure you that you are not alone on that journey. I help many people each day reach a place in their life where they feel good again. They no longer doubt their capabilities and put forth the effort needed because they have come to realize that there is no better time than now. Let today be the day you prepare for the strongest/brightest fire you have ever built within your body, mind, and soul so that you can light the path leading to your most desired life.
Until then,
