Personal Development & Self-Improvement

Last week I spoke about mindset coaching, but I want to break down what that work is commonly called. The work of a mindset coach will be dealing with personal development. Personal development is just that, personal. That means the growth and development you want to create in your life can occur, but you need a systematic way to get there. Today, I will discuss personal development and how it can be used to make changes for your future.

Personal development will be defined as the activities or actions to help people reach their potential and maximize their capabilities. Another fancy word for personal development is called self-improvement. Both terms will deal with you stepping into a different course of action you are taking. Though we can use these terms interchangeably, know that developing yourself is slightly different than improving yourself. For example, if you live in the ghetto, you can develop the community, or you can improve the community. Depending on where the individual is will depend if they should be developed or improved for a better result.

In my mindset coaching career, I work with people more on personal development because it is the same as mindset at the end of the line. To this saying, mindset is not about how we first think about something but the conclusion, for example. If you look in the mirror and say how you look out loud, eventually, in time that day, you will find that what you said is not what you believe. This is because it was only your conscious mind at work when you said what you said.

It can be simple to say all the things you see and want to do, but at the end of the day, will you take action? Not many people will take action initially, but that action will slowly fade. I am writing all these articles about personal development and mindset because we are in one of the most magical times of the year, January.

January is magical because most people will get a huge boost of motivation from the New Year and their resolutions. Well, the thing about motivation is that it is temporary. Yes, motivation is good for the short term and a quick boost, but you want to rely on something else for the long term. Think of motivation like a candy bar. A candy bar will give you a quick energy boost because of all the sugar, but it doesn’t give you the nutrients your body needs to function. Not to mention all that sugar and sodium you are eating will make you thirsty, making the issue worst.

The trend in January is the start of a strong will for personal development and self-improvement, but it tapers off quickly. You can expect 3 – 4 months of a strong will to change your circumstance and work on personal development, but after, your subconscious will kick in, and you will have a tough uphill battle. For many people, this battle is lost, and that battle was the determining factor in winning the war towards self-improvement.

My work as a mindset coach helps people stick to the mindset of personal development and self-improvement. The process can be simple, but it is extremely difficult for the brain to initiate for a long time. The issue comes with energy levels and comfort. It is easier not to take action than it is to take action. If someone came to me and said they wanted to change their life, I would look them in the eyes and say, are you wanting to change your life because of a will or because of a desire.

The difference between will and desire might not be far from the idea of personal development and self-improvement, but one term has a hidden crutch that many people do not notice until they give up. That one crutch is that we can desire many things in our life. Ask a kid to open a toy catalog, a man to open a Porsche magazine, or a woman in a clothing store; they will find something they desire.

Well, what happens to those toys that we once desired? They are sitting in a toy box. What happened to that car we wanted? It just turns into a car. What happens to those clothes we desire while they are on the racks in the store? They hang in your closet with the tags still on them. As you can see, a desire is just superficial but will not bring about meaningful personal development change.

However, the idea of willing something into your life is different. When you will something, there is an aspect of uneasiness that you have to go through. The mind or body has to adjust to some degree to create this will in our life. The result of willing something will have a higher probability of success than desiring something alone. When we allow our brain to will something into our life, we are etching something important into our psyche, and when we do that, it becomes a survival instinct. Similar to how you smell liquor, you drank too much off and got sick.

Personal development is the same way. We have to will the process into our minds and our life. That is the work I do as a mindset coach. I help people develop into the people they want to be. The first step is to control the quality of our thoughts about personal development and self-improving our life. Yes, wanting a good life is something everyone wants, but it is something that not everyone will achieve. The crazy part is that everyone can achieve a good life but lacks the mindset to attain it or keep it.

What I find many other coaches do is fix it from the surface level and not dig deep into the issue’s root. Often, we are the issue of our problems, but we will be reluctant to admit it. This is akin to a doctor prescribing meds for depression instead of dealing with the root cause of the depression. Another example would be to put a bandaid over a would that would have to be operated on or sewn closed. We can give ourselves quick fixes, but long term; it is not what we need to improve our life.

Personal development is changing the results you are getting and turning them into the results you want. With each passing day, so much human potential is untapped, and we must learn how to untap that potential quickly. If you want to change your life through personal development and self-improvement, you should get a mindset coach to help you achieve your goals. Walking the path of personal development alone can lead you to many pitfalls that can be avoided. Make sure you have the best help to help you achieve the improvements you want today.

Until then,
