Our minds are powerful! They allow us to be in a positive/optimistic mood or have a negative/pessimistic mood. Nonetheless, where ever your mindset is today, you can change it to where you want it to be. There is always another side to view if you can be aware of your mindset. Though your mind might only want to focus on one thing, idea, behavior, or mood, it can be trained to see all aspects of a situation and choose which one to nurture. Being able to do this will help manifest the way you want to feel and the life you will want to have. In this blog, I want to talk about your mindset and how you can either let it define you or refine you.
Both aspects of defining and refining share the same power. You can use this power to define and refine negativity, or you can use this power to define and refine positivity. The people who are in a dark place in their life and they can only think about the negatives and troubles they have in their life will have a much more difficult time reaching their dream life. I do not recommend luck being something you hope for in your life, either. If you are not where you want to be, then it is up to YOU to define what you want for your life. You have to do the groundwork and set yourself up for victory. Imagine an NFL team who never practices and wins the Superbowl. They do not exist because practice is needed to define and refine you. The repeated process of doing something until perfection can be the mindset you need to reach the next stage of development.
If these same athletes believed that practice served them no purpose, then they would not have their hearts in the game when it was time for them to shine. If they believed that they were not good enough or if they would lose, then that mindset would manifest in their life. Helplessness is a learned behavior that people attain by giving up or no longer trying. This all comes around to looking at the situation. The future is yours to mold, but why do people neglect to mold it into the structure they want? One of the main reasons is that people create excuses that stop the mind from taking the initiative and proper massive action.
The mind is strong, and we are the trainers of our own minds. Like a trainer/coaches, they have the intention to get you in the best place possible. Though perfection is not an overnight thing, many people do not seek greatness because they understand how much work it will require. If you gave the mind a choice to take the easy road or the challenging road, it would choose the easy road. This is because we have a very primitive brain that would love nothing else than to relax and take it easy. The people who do not let their brains define who they are and what they are capable of are the people who create a reality they can refine into their most desired lives.
When life throws a tantrum and doesn’t give you what you want is a classic example of life. Things do not always go our way, but we decide what to make of them. The person who didn’t get the raise they were thinking about might be in a rough place. They might have a million things going through their mind. I am sure the majority of people are not thinking about the positives, like having their job still with another opportunity to get the promotion next go around. They are probably thinking about revenge(anger), leaving their job(spite), jealous (if another person received a raise), nervous (what will I tell my family), and sad(I’m not good enough). These emotions are heavy and can bring you down. However, you have the option to see the other side of the picture. You have the option to be excited for the new year of new learning that will occur. You might be happy for the people who got a raise/promotion and say that they deserved it. How you think affects what comes into your life.
You become what you define for yourself. If you believe that good things are coming, then good things will come. It might take a while, but they are on the way. If you are having a hard time seeing how life can get any better, then that type of mindset is just poison to you. You are what you think and do. If you can believe that it can be done, then it can be done. If you are having a hard time believing and trying to be positive, then that is the first step. You have to define what you want in your life. The first thing I tell my clients is to have a positive outlook. A belief that things are going to be OK and that the life they dream of having can be attained.
Reaching the place you want to reach will require massive amounts of work. If you think you are working hard right now, then you are wrong. If you are not where you want to be, then you need to give more than ever. Though you might be on a plan and on track to reach a goal doesn’t mean you will have the life you dream of. This is because it is easy to do something without emotion and meaning. If I ask you to sweep the floor, you might get the job done well, but what did you gain? Maybe you were only thinking about yourself or the praise/money you would receive. What would happen if I didn’t give you what you were expecting? What emotions would you allow to take over? Would you be angry with me and feel that I have cheated you? This happens all too often in our life. When things do not go the way we expected, we say, “why me” instead of “try me.”
The bright side of situations is in your mind also. It might begin when you wake up. Perhaps you dread Mondays because you want to sleep in and not go to work. What is there about work that you find so unpleasant? What negativities did you attach to your job? Did you take the time to see the bright side? Again, we are wired to see the bad and let the good fly by without a second thought. The good can be anything, and it is up to us to refine that goodness into our life. We have to be the person who sees the good in our life. We have to understand that what we do has meaning and purpose. Though you might not be in the place you want to be exactly right now, it doesn’t mean you cannot smile along the way to your destination.
Your mindset is all you need to adjust when looking to define and refine what you want in your life. The task is simple to say, but it can be a challenge for many. Many people have let go of the wheel of life and have given up control. Knowing where you want to be and taking the initiative to get there are two separate factors. People can easily tell me what they want in their life, but the moment I tell them what it takes, they are overwhelmed and take the road of least resistance. These people take no action or very little. I understand that it is tough and tiring and all of the above, but excuses will not bring you to where you want to be in life. Once you define what you want in your life, your next big job is to refine it. When you refine what you want, then you are continually working at attaining and achieving that goal/desire.
The quickest way to get a goal complete is to be focused and committed. People are quick to make an excuse or procrastinate. We all have 24 hours in a day, and it is up to you if you want to make something out of it or squander it away. We let our past failures stop us from our future successes. This is due to the mindset you allow in your life. Your mind is a literal switch. We can flip it on or off. The problem is that we are filled with fear and anxiety when flipping the switch. We are not good with change. What if we fail again, or what if things don’t go my way? These thoughts can be dangerous to any potential growth. That is why once you define what you want, you have to do all you can, including not getting in your own way.
In closing, in order to define and refine your mindset, you have to remain optimistic. There will be times when pessimism is needed, but going after your dreams should not be one of them. If your dream is to be rich and famous, then go for it. That is something you know is not impossible. The world is filled with rich and famous people. You can be one of them too. What is needed for that to happen is massive and intense action. You have to give all you can to get to your goal. If you squander a day, then you can be setting yourself back. Do not be the person that sets your goals and ambitions back. Be the person that defines and goes after their goals. Keep going until you refine it into exactly what you were dreaming. You are in charge of your mindset and the possibilities it can bring forth.
Until then,
