In this blog, I want to share how you can find your thinking process in your day-to-day life. I work in many different areas, such as fitness, finance, relationships, career development, and happiness, but I do not give advice on what they should do. I go deeper than what needs to be done. I help people understand their current mental state. The truth about your mental state is covered up by all the world’s “issues” and our “busy schedules.” Oftentimes, we forget to understand where our mind is when addressing a situation.
The mind can lose focus at times, but it is up to us to steer it in the right direction. Just like driving a car, you are in control of the choices you make. You can literally take any topic or subject and analyze where your thought process begins and ends. For example, my job: “My job is difficult, and it takes away all my time. I can’t do anything because my life is consumed with the massive load of work my boss gives me.” Now, let’s break this down. There are two excuses in this short example. The first excuse is that you do not have time. The second excuse is that your boss is giving you too much work. Both excuses might be true and valid, but when you start putting off the changes you need, it affects your fullest potential in other areas of life.
You have to be bigger than your excuses to attain a mindset that is checked. I have spoken about excuses in past blogs, and it stays true in all I do. Excuses are pointless! They serve no purpose but to bring you down in an attempt to make you feel validated. If you are late for work, for example, you might say, “My car broke down.” Now, is this a valid excuse for being late? Yes, but when you give an excuse for the mystery of the world, you become a victim. You become a victim of life’s mystery, and you chalk it up to just being fate. Why should you be sorry or make an excuse because of fate? I thought you were supposed to happen to life, not let life happen to you.
The mental state we are in is up to us. We can still be good human beings and make sure that the only time we look down on others is to pick them up. This leads us to all the areas I work with. Regardless of that area, there is a certain mindset you have about it. If you are thinking about relationships and you don’t feel confident, beautiful/handsome, or desired, what is the mindset you are thinking of? That you are no good? What if you took that negative thought away or changed it around? When you learn to see things the way you wish for them to be in your life, then you will start to attain them. (The process of finding your mindset will be covered in detail in next week’s Tune-Up Series (T-U-S)).
Beginning with the end goal in mind is something that Steven Covey introduced in his book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. This concept is basically telling you that your whole thought process has an end goal. This can be for anything, but you have to decide what you want in the end. If you want more money, then you have to figure out all the obstacles that are getting in your way of attaining that. It might be your spending habits or can be an income stream problem. All of these problems can be addressed so that you can set yourself up for success.
The same is true when dealing with fitness. You might want to lose or gain weight, but it is just not working out. You get a trainer and spend all this money, but you are not making the progress you want. Well, where is your mind right now? Is it telling you that you are no good and it can’t be done? That you did a good job trying, but it is just not worth the trouble anymore? The mindset you have can determine your results more than the foods you eat. Just look at people come January 1st, New Year. Everyone is on the train to get in shape and make this year their best year yet. Didn’t you say that last year? Are you not where you want to be yet? What progress did you make last year? The questions can go on, but the problem many people face is that they lose focus, and their mindset is no longer driven like it was at New Year.
Putting off until tomorrow or till we are ready will not be your saving grace. There is no better time than now! That is your mindset! There can be no more waiting or putting off. You have to make what you want in your life urgent. Now, you might not think you are good enough or ready, but there is no perfect time. If you wanted me to tell you the perfect time, then I would say, “Now. Now is the perfect time.” Your mental state can run many areas in your life, and that is what I work with clients to attain.
In conclusion, attaining the proper mental state can help you progress in your goals and in any area you wish to further. The mindset you have or give yourself is the fuel to get to your destination. If you do not have a strong mindset, then it will take longer to reach your destination. This is because when you stumble or break down, you will stay down longer than if you had the mindset of the end goal. Today, I want you to write down the areas you want to work on in your life. Then, next to them, I want you to write down what your thoughts are on those areas. Put it somewhere that, each day, you can see. Did the thought change from yesterday or last week? If it didn’t, then you have found your mindset on that topic, and if it did, then write down the new one until it doesn’t change. Whether it be positive or negative is your choice. I do hope it is positive and that the mental state you mold into becomes checked so that you can set yourself up for success and focus on your most desired life and results.
Until then,
