The Issue with Mindset

If there is one thing I love in the world, it is for sure mindset. Mindset can tell us so much about ourselves and others if we pay attention. However, the art and study of mindset doesn’t come without its issues. Think of it as me saying that if you want to win in life, you must master your mindset. However, you can win at life in many different senses and not have a strong mindset, which I often speak of. Today, I will share the issues with mindset rather than mindset is the only way.

I have written many articles on mindset, and they all go into specific thought processes and patterns anyone can follow. Though the articles speak of the positive nature of mindset and how to evolve it in a certain way, we must look at the issues that stem from mindset. The mindset issue is that there is no one way to do something. There is always a path that can lead to the same destination in which we thought the only way was our own.

When we share our experiences with the world, we will have navigated life and the obstacles given to us in a certain way. It can be easy to tell someone that I did it or that it was easy, but for someone else, it can be the most challenging thing they will ever do. The one thing we must understand about mindset is that, though there may be common characteristics, it doesn’t mean the outcome will be the same if we follow the directives. The issue comes down to fear, circumstance, and environment.

I can write an entire article on fear, circumstance, and environment, but today will be a perfect opportunity to combine the three into one mindset. Mindset can help you through fear, but it doesn’t mean it will stop fear from rearing its fangs. For example, if you are young, you might be afraid of the dark. Eventually, this fear will fade, and you can be fearful of other things. Now, you are more scared of taxes and failure than of the dark. Was the triumph of overcoming the fear of the dark meaningful, or should it be considered irrelevant due to our current standards?

To some, they will say that is child’s play compared to the fears of rejection and harm that can come their way at any moment. However, this mindset or opinion will be based on the individual’s circumstance and environment, both growing up and currently. The fact is that we are all unique in our DNA and how we think. Just because we are unique does not make us special. This concept can be difficult for many people to understand because what they know may be based on ignorance and falsity.

We saw this firsthand during the pandemic. People would swear that masks worked or didn’t work; who was right? People would inject themselves with experimental drugs for safety because the brain’s job is to keep us alive. However, something strange happened during the pandemic. Some people thought this drug would not save their lives but end their lives. Call this conspiracy thinking or craziness, but what ensued years after the initial push for the vaccines and masks is that the effectiveness was not what many people believed it would be.

For some, people said this is do or die, death or life, but it turned out that mindset can be both right and wrong at the same time if your beliefs are entwined. I often say that if you tell yourself a lie long enough, it becomes your truth. This thinking will translate to people who give themselves trauma and disease due to their thinking process. The mind is amazing because it can either make the way or get in the way.

Our opinion should not be shoved down other people’s throats so we can feel a sensation of acknowledgment that others feel and think the same we do. People love to be correct and hate being wrong. Our country is in the mists of a divide because people believe that how they think is the only way and should only hang out with people who feel the same. How many friends and families had it out during the pandemic? There are too many to count because clients tell me they lost touch with countless friends and families because of how their mindset was progressing.

Our mindset can be wrong, but if we go against our instinct long enough, we will reject future actions and apply fear of the unknown. This is where the negative mind begins to form because we are unsure of our thoughts, feelings, and actions. When we do not have control of arguably the three factors that promote success, happiness, and fulfillment, there is no wonder why more people are coming out as depressed and suicidal. The mindset can be a decisive contest for positive and negative things.

The story I want to reference is the woman who said she had breast cancer in her left breast. Though the studies would return negative, she still believed she had it. Ten years later, she developed breast cancer in her left breast. Coincidence, maybe, but the power of words and thinking cannot go without a second look.

There is also the study of positive and negative words used on plants. A class experimented where they would talk to two plants, one with positive and kind words and one with negative and hateful comments. The plant that was told positive words was bright and thriving, while the plant that was spoken to negatively was withering and dying. The study results stated that tones can be felt, and living creatures will feel that frequency, positive or negative. Those tones do not have to be vocal only to have an effect; they can be unspoken thoughts in our minds.

With the notion that our thoughts and feelings can either heal us or make us sick, it is not a far stretch to say that our mindset can make us live or make us die. When I say die, I do not mean an instant death but rather a slow, gradual death that will take many years to take effect. The sad reality is that most people are the Walking Dead. They go to jobs they hate, sabotage positive thinking with pessimism, and procrastinate at every turn.

With this type of thinking as the prevalent mindset and nature of people today, we must think of a way to remedy this discrepancy and mindset. The notion is that mindset is like yin and yang and that we need both to develop proper consistency in life. This thinking cannot be argued because if you had all good in your life and no bad, you would not appreciate the good. For example, some rich folks who have more money than they can ever spend contemplate the meaning of even working anymore. They have both no purpose and fulfillment.

The same is true on the other end for the people who do not have great wealth and prosperity. They will base their thinking on getting rich and being happy once they reach the destination where they believe happiness resides. The issue is that we are waiting for life to bring us something good rather than feeling good and reaching for it ourselves. Think of it this way: if you close your eyes long enough, you will miss life. The trick is not to wait for life to happen but rather for you to happen to life by not waiting and taking action today. Think of it like the fallacy of times concept.

In closing, there can be an issue when it comes to mindset. Mindset can lead us to the best places in life, but it can also cause our world to go into a tailspin and crash. Your thinking will depend on factors like fear, circumstance, and environment, but the reality will be you. You have to be brutally honest with yourself at every junction, both victories and defeats, and develop an action plan on what to do when you get to that point. If you struggle to make a choice that benefits you and those around you, then mindset coaching will be what you need to overcome that obstacle. On the other side will lay your best self, in which you can be confident in the choices you act upon and exude into the universe.
