Conditioning Yourself to Succeed

Success is one of those things that many people chase after. It is also something that can only be defined by the individual who is seeking/living it. Though some people have no idea what they want out of their life, they can find what that is. In today’s blog, I will be speaking on that success and how to set up your mindset for it. I am here to help destroy those shackles on your mind so that you can understand what is preventing you from that success. Below I will share a short story and speak on the takeaways that can help condition you toward the success you seek.

As my friend was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at any time, break away from the ropes they were tied to, but for some reason, they did not. My friend saw a trainer nearby and asked why these beautiful, magnificent animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away.

“Well,” he said, “when they are very young and much smaller, we use the same size of rope to tie them, and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.” My friend was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds, but because they believed they couldn’t, they were stuck right where they were.

Our life can be just like these elephants. From the moments we were socialized in school to how we are supposed to operate as adults have put limits on our minds. Our best life is right in front of us, and we have the power to break the chains that keep us bound to the ground. We can soar to great heights in our lives but have learned to stay grounded after a failure. That is one of the major problems many people have faced in their life. People are quick to let failure take over and learn that settling for less is not so bad. We have learned behavior that is harmful and poisonous to our dreams. So how can we overcome our limiting beliefs and condition ourselves for success?

To condition ourselves for success, we must acknowledge the three factors that can get in our way. Those three factors are what we have been told, what we know, and what we don’t know. Understanding and analyzing these three areas will help you find out why you are not reaching the levels of success you desire. Just like the elephant in the story, they have been conditioned at an early age to believe that they cannot break free from the rope that binds them. That was the fate we were given as students when we were young. We were told to sit quietly and raise our hands if we wanted to speak or use the restroom. Our imagination and freedom were structured to live a mediocre life. However, this does not have to remain our fate.

The first factor, as stated, is the things we have been told in our life. I am sure you can recall a time when someone said something could not be done. They might have said it was impossible and that you were just wasting your time. Impossible just means it hasn’t been done yet. You have not to let the things people tell you are what is or isn’t possible. This is where you create your own reality on that matter at hand. People are quick to lay out their insecurities, failures, and negativity on you, but you must remain resilient from their words. Do not let their failures become your regrets because unless you try, you will never know if you could or couldn’t. Those doubts and negativity of others should be treated as fuel for you to overcome the hurdle they have in their mind. Show them it is impossible and that you will not heed anything less than greatness.

I oftentimes look back and recall many times working as a teacher, scenarios where children would be labeled as misfits and unteachable. I did not let a challenge pass me by when someone told me that. Though many times it was not easy and required HUGE amounts of energy, I got them to where I wanted. I got them to where they needed to be. When people say that it cannot be done, it is because they are afraid of the work that is involved in making it a reality. People once said that we would never reach the moon, and look at what we can do now. We send up space missions for the sake of exploration and future space colonization. Everything is possible if you can believe it. Ignore what everyone else is telling you about it and create your own truths.

The next factor is what you know. Perhaps you have tried and failed at something. That failed attempt has done one of two things. It made you realize you can’t do it or that you have to try again. I know firsthand that failure and rejection do not feel good. I also know that is the reason why many people give up prematurely. What must be done is that we have to know that there is a chance to do the things we want in life. We have to know that there is no shortage of success/wealth out there in the world, and we have to get it. We have to choose not to accept the boundaries that have been drawn by society and create our own.

The journey we have to take to get to our success is dependent on how we view our abilities. We have to use the things that we know serve us. In turn, we have to throw away the things that we do not. If you can believe it, then it can become a reality. We cannot be that elephant who has grown strong enough to escape the bonds of a flimsy rope. We know that we have been trained to have a limiting mindset, so the cards are already against us, but we can use the hand we were dealt and work miracles. Countless times we have been told to get a job and follow all the rules. Well, I like to spice things up a bit! That plan of being mediocre didn’t sit well with me. I want to be different, and I want to be loud! I want to be proud of what I create, and I will not let someone dictate what I can and cannot do in and with my life.

The last area that can help condition you to succeed is the things you do not know. The world is vast, and there are new and unknown things happening each day. Just think about it. Today is a day that has never happened before. This day will not return to you unless someone figures out time travel. Even then, does your mindset operate in the now or the future? Regardless, we can change our outcome and define our own success with proper actions. We have to start to do things that will promote success instead of hinder it.

The unknown for us can be scary and uninviting because it requires effort on our part. We have to learn how to see and appreciate the work that lies ahead of us. The human spirit is strong, but the brain likes to slack off and do the bare minimum. We have to become accustomed again to hard work and constant growth. There has to be a  direct movement toward our goals each day. We have to take away the boundaries that society and our minds have created. Anything is possible with proper effort and action. Failure has no place in this environment, only learning. Life is not about never failing but rather learning to fail and appreciating the lesson that was learned. Use those lessons to alter your trajectory so that during the next attempt, you can get closer to your goal.

All in all, conditioning yourself for success begins and ends with your mindset. Having the correct mindset will allow all the other things that you want for your life to fall into place. If you choose to be wildly successful in a career, business, or relationship, it is dependent on how your mind approaches it. Remember to tell yourself words of affirmation each day so that you can remain aware of your strength and your weaknesses. Learn to create an environment that promotes your best self and stay away from the things that prohibit your fullest potential. Do the things that are healing and nurturing for your body and soul. In time, with consistency, you will make huge strides in the direction you want to go in. Remember, the direction you choose. That means concise and proper action. Success can be attained by you and all who seek it, so prepare for that journey today.
