I work with people daily to develop their mindsets. Some might think our sessions are a jolt of motivation to boost them forward, while some people think they are a complete overhaul of how they operate. Now, what you want to change and transform is completely up to you, and you must do the work to get what you want out of life. I cannot go to the gym for you and lose the weight you want to get rid of. I cannot go to the company you work for and set you up for the big promotion next year. However, what I can do for you is to help you to form an unwavering mindset. In this blog, I will be sharing with you ways you can develop and maintain a mindset that will be unwavering.
An unwavering mindset is defined as a mind/thought process that is unshakeable and certain of what it wants to accomplish. This type of mindset will hold firm through any adversity or challenge you have in your life. This type of mindset has never been more important than it is today. The world is filled with negativity and unrest, and many people are trying to bring you down with them. Sometimes we have to take a step back and ask ourselves some questions to refocus our minds. Questions like: What is it you believe? Your beliefs should hold true regardless of what is going on in the world. What you define as your reality will always be that. It will be yours to control.
There are many ways you can develop/maintain an unwavering mindset. Today, I will be focussing on my favorite three that have helped me the most in my life. The three ways to develop an unwavering mindset are to understand your “why” (your reason/belief), read/watch inspirational books/movies, and lastly, work with a coach/mentor. My reasoning for choosing these three over all the other reasons is to make it clear that you are the person who has to do the work. As I said, no one can do the work for you; that is your job. In order to have and maintain an unwavering mindset, it is contingent on your ability to focus and put in the work.
The first way to reach or maintain an unwavering mindset is to understand your “why.” This should be of no surprise to many of my long-time readers and followers. I wrote a whole blog on finding “Your why” and why it is important. The importance of your “why” is to be the fuel for your fire. Your “why” is the reason why you do all you do. Perhaps the reason why you go to work is you need money. On the other hand, for some people, going to work means waking up and doing what you love without the goal or desire for money. There can be many factors as to why you do something, but if you can develop a good reason for why you do the things you do, then you will notice your mindset will follow in pursuit.
The second way to reach or develop an unwavering mindset is to find inspiration. I find most of my inspiration from reading books and watching movies. This is not as big of a boost as my why, but sometimes when you are tired and want to take a break, this step is a great aid to getting back on track. What I love most about this is that reading a book or watching an inspirational film are low-energy activities. I am hearing that people are trying to remain sane or are suffering from burnout in our society today. Watching films is what I use to recover from burnout. I watch films that will strengthen my mind in some way. It can be about anything, really, but I do steer toward films that have an underlying lesson. Whether that lesson is love, passion, or inspiration to become successful, I find that this step is refreshing and helpful in reinforcing your unwavering mind.
My third way of reaching or developing an unwavering mindset is to work with someone. The individual you work with should have experience in the field of teaching/mentoring. I think that we all have the knowledge to share with the world. An experienced teacher/coach will know how to relay their knowledge/wisdom and share it with you. I can recall when I first became a swim coach. I knew all the basics of how to swim, but how to teach someone how to swim. Do you just tell them to move their arms and legs at the same time? You definitely could, but it might not produce the results you were seeking. The same is true in this step. In order to reach the results you want (an unwavering mindset), it would be important to seek out someone who has reached this point and is knowledgeable in the arts of teaching.
These three steps are just some of the many factors that you will need in order to reach/develop an unwavering mind. Now that you have some knowledge on how to start to reach that point, it is also important to look at why you want to get to this point. I will say again that having a fixed mindset limits what you can see. This is not about being right or wrong, but rather the opinion of others. Now when you have your opinion, you can remain fixed or flexible. We spoke about the fixed mind last week, and it is important to your growth as a person. You cannot go around fighting everyone with a different opinion or mindset. You must determine for yourself what you want your mind to focus on.
As for me, I keep my mind focused on growth. That is how I have wired myself over the years. I do not place my happiness in others or the future, but I make sure my why is vivid to myself. I have given myself a goal that seems out of reach, but I am excited about the challenge. I have reinforced my mindset through the methods I shared with you earlier and continue to do so each day. The process of repetition and practice will help create the foundation for the rest of your life. Having a strong foundation (mindset) is imperative to your success. You will have many challenges that you must face, and only you can overcome them. You have to make sure you stop hiding in fear of the unknown and start having courage toward what can be.
In closing, having an unwavering mindset will help you to focus on reaching your most desired life. You will gear your whole being into doing what must be done each day. I have shared a few ways that you can strengthen your mind and reassure yourself that everything will be alright. You can reach the heights you want to reach in your life, but you have to remain focused. You have to make sure that the noise of life does not overwhelm you from hearing the truth. The truth is you are capable of great things. Things that no one else can do but you. That is why you are here. You have something special to share with the world. It is up to you which type of mindset you will allow dictating your future. Become unwavering in all you do, and watch your world change for the better.
Until then,
